Chye sim is a very common vegetable that not many people like. It’s quite often used in char kway teow, but so little of it is used that you may not even know it’a there. The humble chye sim actually goes quite well with prawns and here’s how you can make a nice chye sim dish in just 10 minutes.

First, brown some garlic in oil and stir fry the prawns and the thicker chye sim stems. Once the prawns are partially cooked, add some oyster sauce. Once that is done, put in the leafy portions.

Toss them around until the stalks turn limp. Add some hua diao wine, a teaspoon of sugar and you’re done.

All this can be done in 10 minutes or less and your kids will be surprised that chye sim can be so flavourful.
