Californian Red

I’ve not had a lot of good experience with American wines. That’s why I hesitated to open this bottle which was presented to me by a friend and former colleague.

It’s easy to see what it looks like, but the taste and aroma are most important. This being a red wine, I’m looking for tannins and I must say there is not too much of it. The aroma is not particular strong, perhaps mildly citrus. It is definitely light bodied, fruity, slightly on the sweet side and reminds me of cabernet sauvignon.

Unfortunately there is little aftertaste. Still, a very easy wine to drink. I recommend you have it with cashew nuts.

Sangria & Apricots

SONY DSC

This is a cheap, $16 wine which I had every intention to convert into Sangria. After tasting it on its own, I realised that it wasn’t so bad. It had a hint of nuts but was still rather acidic. The sangria that I made out of it, was superb.

For dessert, I had some of that sangria with a plate of organic dried apricots. Notice the dark colour. Most dried apricots have been treated with sulphur dioxide to make them look a more pleasing orange. I prefer my dried apricots without the acrid taste.

A nice, healthy dessert you can enjoy at home. Try it.

Sangria Material

I thought it was a steal. A bottle of this French wine for $17. But trust me, it’s quite yucky. Definitely sangria material. Go get your oranges if you decide to buy this wine.
